Receipt Maker
Write a tidy receipt for a payment, with your own numbering and an optional PAID stamp.
A receipt is shorter than an invoice and the expectations are different: proof that money changed hands, with the date, the amount, the method and who paid. Market traders, tradespeople, clubs taking subs and anyone selling at a craft fair all need one occasionally, and a handwritten duplicate book is not always to hand.
This produces a single-page receipt that prints cleanly on A4 or saves as a PDF. There is a running total, an optional cash-tendered and change calculation, a payment-method line, a PAID stamp you can switch on, and a note field for anything else worth recording.
How to use it
- Put in your business name, address and email — anything you leave blank is simply omitted.
- Enter the customer's name and the payment method (cash, card, bank transfer or other).
- Add a line for each item paid for, with the amount. The total is calculated for you.
- If it was a cash payment, fill in Tendered and the change is worked out automatically.
- Tick Show a PAID stamp if you want it obvious that the balance is settled.
- Press Print and choose Save as PDF, or Save a copy for an HTML file you can print again later.
Questions
Should I give a receipt for a cash sale?
It is good practice and it protects you. A receipt is evidence of the amount, the date and what it was for, which matters if a customer later disputes the price or if you need to reconcile your takings. For anything over a few pounds, hand one over.
Does a receipt need to show VAT?
Only if you are VAT-registered and the sale includes VAT — then it must show your VAT number and the VAT amount. This receipt takes line items with the amounts as paid; if you need a full VAT breakdown, use the invoice maker instead, which has a tax rate field.
Can I use the same numbering as my invoice book?
Yes. The number field is free text, so use whatever sequence your records follow — invoice numbers, a running receipt number, or the date. Keeping one sequence across both documents makes bookkeeping easier.
