Document Converter

Convert between text-based document formats without opening a single account.

Most “document converter” sites exist to get a file onto their server, because that is where the money is. This one does not, because it does not need to: Markdown, HTML, plain text, CSV and JSON are all just text, and every conversion between them is something a browser tab can do on its own.

That is also the honest limit here. This will not turn a .docx into a PDF or read a scanned image — those are binary formats that need a real document engine. What it does well is the conversion you actually hit most often: a Markdown README into HTML for a page, a spreadsheet export (CSV) into JSON for a script, or a chunk of HTML pasted from somewhere into clean Markdown.

How to use it

  1. Paste your text into the input box, or use Load a file — the source format is guessed from the file extension.
  2. Set From format if the guess is wrong, and choose To format.
  3. Press Convert. The result appears on the right immediately — there is no upload step to wait for.
  4. Use Copy to grab the result, or Download to save it with the right file extension.

Questions

Can this convert to or from Word or PDF?

No — those are binary, layout-based formats and converting them properly needs a real document engine, not a text tool. This tool only handles formats that are, underneath, plain text: Markdown, HTML, CSV, JSON and plain text itself.

Why can't I convert prose to CSV?

CSV is tabular — rows and columns — and a paragraph of Markdown or HTML has no table structure to extract. Converting to CSV only makes sense starting from JSON (an array of objects) or another CSV.

Is the Markdown → HTML conversion the same as the Markdown editor tool?

It uses the same small parser: headings, bold, italic, inline code, links, lists and blockquotes. If you want a live side-by-side preview while you write, the Markdown Live Editor is built for that; this tool is for converting a finished document in bulk.
